before you eat drink a glass of water you’ll need less food then, eat smaller meals regularly, change your food buying before you get it home so you don’t have chocolate pies and cakes in the house.buy more fruit and try to snack on that instead, change coke or sugary pop for a cordial. just little tips but they might help you.

what are your eating habits like? what kind of food do you eat? that will better help answer this question… your diet, and how your body reacts to the foods you eat is the most important thing to think about when trying to lose weight.
Edit: and your doc doesn’t seem to know much about nutrition… I would seek out a nutritionist, to help you find a diet that works for/with you.

One thing you have to put into your perspective, is that muscle weighs more than fat. So if you exercise a lot more, then eat a bit more, thinking that you deserve it, you will actually be gaining a lot more weight.
Also, water is great for diets, and not a lot of people think about it. Just drink whenever you get hungry; it actually works.
And as for snacks, just try to buy things such as grapes, because they are great to snack on, and give you your 5 a day.
It is also linked with your genes. If your parents are a bit obese, then it will be highly probably that you will be as well. Simply make sure that the percentage of fat in your body isn’t at a critical level, because when your arteries get clogged up, then that’s the end.
Also, discipline yourself. When you are sitting down watching tv, and you have the urge to eat lots of fatty foods, then simply go outside, and exercise. You could jog, or play tennis, or swim (anything that interests you!).
I honestly think all you need to do, is to get a routine which fits with you perfectly.
Finally, don’t stress out about this, there is lots of places for support if you need it; and it is growingly common to find a slightly obese person on the streets. You are definately not alone.
